Jackson County Floridan

Remembering our heroes

When U.S. Army, Retired Sgt. Maj. Enoch Williams, U.S. Army, stepped to the microphone on the front steps of the Jackson County Courthouse Monday morning, he began his speech with a passage of scripture from John 15:13, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” That, Williams said, is “exactly what our fallen comrades did for their friends, country and to preserve our democracy.” The guest speaker at the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22 sponsored Memorial Day observance ceremony; Williams exhorted the gathered crowd to remember the reason for the May 25 holiday, to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
