On October 16, 2008 at approximately 4:56 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from a residence located at 6031 Blue Springs Road in Marianna. The caller advised that a subject had been shot at this location. Upon arrival officers found Thadius Rhian Garrett lying under the carport suffering from several gunshot wounds.  CPR was initiated until EMS personnel arrived at the scene and transported Garrett to Jackson Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m.
