Second man charged in connection with copper theft
One of the three men arrested last week in the theft of some four-wheelers near Alford now stands accused of stealing copper wiring in Marianna. Kyle Edward Helton, 18, of Palm City, was charged most recently with burglary and grand theft.

JACOB CITY – Voters here overwhelmingly approved changes to the city charter Tuesday that will put the current mayor out of office.
Baggett elected Marianna chief of police
With approximately 56 percent of the votes, Hayes Baggett was elected the incoming Marianna chief of police Tuesday night.
Of 1,064 ballots cast, Baggett pulled in a total of 597.

Speed Lmit decreased on U.S. 231 near Pellet Plant entrance in Jackson County

Solution under way for contaminated wells
Traces of the pesticide Dieldrin have been found in a half-dozen private water wells in the Owens Street and Calloway Street neighborhood east of Marianna.
Most or all of the contaminated wells have already been fitted with filters as a temporary solution to the problem. However, the county is preparing to extend its water line there to give the homeowners permanent relief.
