Double fatality in Fairview Road crash

Two Panhandle area residents were killed in a one-vehicle traffic crash on Fairview Road south of Marianna early Thursday afternoon.
Florida Highway Patrol reports identified the victims as 23-year-old Elbony Veronica Smith Cole of Wewahitchka and 36-year-old Franklin Demond Fennell of Panama City.
According to FHP reports, Cole was driving southbound at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve. She entered the west shoulder of the road and the Mazda 626 she was driving started to spin. It struck a large oak tree. Fennell was prounounced dead at the scene, and Cole died of her injuries after being transported to Jackson Hospital.
FHP reports indicate the crash was alcohol-related.
