The Calhoun County correctional officer accused of bribing and propositioning an inmate for sex in exchange for special treatment now faces separate charges by another law enforcement agency.
According to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement press release, Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy William “Billy” Strawn, 42, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of sexual misconduct between detention facility employees and inmates, a third-degree felony.
Strawn was booked in the Calhoun County Jail.
FDLE, along with the Calhoun County and Liberty County sheriff’s offices, arrested Strawn following an investigation into allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct with two female inmates who were under his direct control. according to the FDLE report.
According to the report, FDLE began investigating Strawn “after receiving complaints alleging Strawn had sexual relations with Calhoun County inmates housed in the Liberty County Jail. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office requested FDLE to take the lead in the investigation.”
The report went on to say that the two counts of sexual misconduct are separate from a Calhoun County investigation involving allegations that Strawn bribed an inmate for sex in exchange for the special treatment of the inmate’s incarcerated husband.
According to the report, Strawn worked for the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office for seven years, and was at one point demoted from deputy to corrections officer following an incident where he allowed an unauthorized person to operate his police vehicle.
