A fire Monday night destroyed a single-family home in Cottondale.
“Basically, when we arrived it was fully involved,” said Jackson County Fire Rescue Chief Tony Wesley.
No one was home at 2870 Highway 90 at the time of the fire, which was called in at 9:57 p.m., said Wesley.
According to the Central Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross, residents of the home were Robert and Theresa Corral and their three children.
Wesley said Cottondale, Campbellton, Alford and JCFR all responded to the fire, and fire rescue did not leave the scene of the smoldering structure until 4:11 a.m. on Tuesday.
“We’ve turned the case over to the state fire marshall for investigation. The cause of the fire was undetermined,” said Wesley.
The Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary lodging, clothing, shoes and food. Those interested in assisting the family may visit http://www.redcrosscpc.org.
