FLORIDAN STAFF REPORT
Published: May 15, 2008
With Jackson County and surrounding areas under a tornado watch for most of the day Thursday, the American Red Cross went on full alert as the storm progressed across the panhandle.
Jackson County is among six counties served by the Central Panhandle ARC.
Reports of possible damage in some areas and a request for assistance from the Pensacola chapter of the ARC prompted the alert. Fast-moving straight-line winds, lightning and possible tornado activity were among the concerns.
The ARC put its Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) on standby Thursday afternoon.
Disaster volunteers in all six counties have been notified, and the chapter will remain on full alert with 24 hour coverage until further notice.
