Saturday’s tour of historic homes is the first of three upcoming events tailor-made for people who love the treasures of the past.
The Chipola Historic Trust’s Historic Tour of Homes begins at 10 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m.
It will feature several homes in Marianna’s Lafayette Street and Putnam/Madison Street areas.
The Russ House on Lafayette Street is headquarters for the self-guided tour, and refreshments will be served there the day of the tour.
Tickets may be purchased in advance. The cost is $10 for the full tour, while individual home tickets are $3 each with one exception – there’s no charge for touring St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
The Artist Guild of Northwest Florida will have art on display and for sale at the Davis-West House and the Bowles-Kimbrough House.
Next week’s events are dutch treat luncheons with no other cost involved.
On Monday, family heirlooms will be showcased at a meeting of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The organization invites the public to attend and to participate by showing their own heirlooms. The meeting will be held at Tony’s Restaurant in Marianna.
The meeting officially begins at 11:10 with a social period, but the heirloom showing and luncheon get underway around 11:30 a.m. The organization suggests that you notify them if you plan to attend, so that the restaurant can have an idea of how many people will be having lunch. You can e-mail , or call the DAR regent at 579-2103.
On Tuesday, the Chipola Regional Arts Association will have its annual and increasingly popular “antiques roadshow” meeting.
This luncheon is also dutch treat, and begins at 11:30 at Jim’s Buffet and Grill in Marianna. The organization invites members of the public to attend and to show their treasures at the event.
The Jackson County Floridan plans to videotape the presentations at both luncheons for use in an upcoming Web cast feature, “Timeless Treasures,” but will refrain from taping anyone who wishes not to participate in the program.
