The Marianna Bulldogs Junior Varsity baseball team made it two in a row last week, handing visiting Enterprise a 7-6 loss.
Brandon Hendrix got the start for the Bulldogs, going five innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two errors. Gabe Sanchez came on in relief, pitching one and two thirds innings before giving way to Jaren Bannerman who threw two-thirds of an inning. Bigale came on in the final inning of play with one out and a runner on first and with the second pitch induced a double play ball to end the inning.
Marianna was three up and three down in the first inning. Brandon Hendrix took one for the team in the bottom of the second inning.
Hendrix moved to second on a sacrifice by Cameron Oliver but was left stranded when the next two batters went down in order.
The Bulldogs plated one run in the third inning. Anthony Williams led off with a single up the middle and with one out moved to second on a single by Patrick Williams. Alex Bigale singled to load to the bases and Bannerman ground out to first, scoring Williams. A ground out to the pitcher ended the inning with the bases loaded.
Marianna was retired in order in the fourth inning.
The Bulldog offense exploded in the fifth inning with five runs to take the lead. Dylan Halstead led off with a walk and moved to second on a walk by Hill.
Bigale was hit with a pitch to load the bases. Bannerman singled home Halstead before Cameron Oliver’s one-out single scored two. Walks to Zack Smith and Buddy Baxter loaded the bases . Passed balls allowed Paul Gochenaur, pinch running for catcher Oliver, to plate the final run of the inning.
Bigale’s single in the sixth was the only base runner for Marianna and the Bulldogs went quietly in the seventh.
With the game tied after seven innings of play, the Bulldog defense dug in and held Enterprise to no runs in the eighth inning of play. In the bottom half of the frame, Gabe Sanchez led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Halstead.
Hill reached on an error and with two outs, Bannerman drew a walk to load the bases. Hendrix picked up a game-winning RBI when he was hit by a pitch to end the game.
Marianna was scheduled to travel to Panama City on Monday to take on Mosley. Results of that game were not available at press time.
