The Cottondale Lady Hornets improved to 3-0 in district competition with a 5-4 win over Sneads Thursday in Sneads.
Shanae Dickens led the Lady Hornets with a homerun and two RBI.
Michelle Bassin and Chelsea Caudill also put in RBI hits for Cottondale.
“We played really well,” Cottondale coach Cassie Whiddon said. “The first inning was a great hitting inning and it continued until the second inning, but after that we wasn’t as focused as where were we should have been.
“Its district time and the time to rise to the occasion is now. (Assistant coach Dickens) and I are still very proud of them, but they need to play hard from beginning to the end.”
Sneads trailed going into the sixth inning before tying it up at 4-4. In the top of the seventh, Salentia Pittman got on base with a bunt single.
Dickens then advanced Pittman to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Caudill brought Pittman to the plate for the game-winning run on a squeeze bunt to put the Lady Hornets ahead for good.
The Lady Hornets next play Tuesday against Chipley in Cottondale 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
