The Sneads Lady Pirates are district champions.

SHS and the Cottondale Lady Hornets traveled to Altha Thursday night, both already qualified for the 2A state tournament, but both eyeing a District 2-2A title.

It was the Lady Pirates who came away with the crown, however, with Karissa Childs and Meghan Smith leading the way on the mound and at the plate.

Childs struck out six Lady Hornets batters for the win and Smith went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Sneads offensively.

Kayla Rabon also went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Childs and Kali Pringle both went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Sneads loaded the bases in the fourth inning of a scoreless game when Pringle scored by stealing home.

Smith then doubled home Samantha Culpepper and Rabon to make it 3-0.

Cottondale got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Lady Pirates got that run right back in the fifth when Childs led-off with a hit and scored on a passed ball for a 4-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Rabon doubled home Pringle for a 6-1 advantage.

Cottondale added another in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.

The Lady Pirates will host Vernon in the first round of the state tournament Tuesday, while Cottondale goes on the road to face Baker.

Both games start at 7 p.m.
