MHS picks up a pair of lopsided wins

The Marianna Bulldogs baseball team improved to 12-3 on the season with back-to-back wins Friday and Saturday.

Friday night was an 11-1 victory over the visiting John Paul II from Tennessee while Saturday’s game was a 16-1 win on the road over the Cottondale Hornets.

In Saturday’s game, Nick Jackson got the start for the Hornets and lasted 1/3 of an inning, giving up 11 runs on five hits, three walks and one hit batter with two errors committed behind him.

Aaron Obert came on in relief to finish the first inning and throw the second.

Obert gave up two runs on one hit, six walks and one hit batsman.

Patrick Frescatore completed the game, giving up just three runs on five hits, one walk and one error.

In the top of the first inning, Brandon Gardner reached on an error at second, followed by an RBI single from Lance Bailey.

Adam Bigale singled and with one out, then Clemmons drew a walk to load the bases.

Brandon Booth doubled home two and Laramie Dryden reached on an error at second that scored one.

A walk to Dakota Partin set the stage for Tyler Wilson’s three-run homer.

Gardner, in his second at bat of the inning, singled and moved to second when Bailey took one for the team.

A walk to Rhyne Elliott loaded the bases for Jon Sims to walk in a run.

With two outs, Kyle Edwards picked up an RBI when he took first on ball four.

Dryden singled to score the 11th run of the inning and Partin drew his second walk of the inning scoring the final run in the first.

Kyle Edwards started on the mound for the Dogs and retired the side in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the second inning, Marianna plated one run.

With one out, Bailey walked and moved to second when Elliott was hit by a pitch.

A walk to Sims loaded the bases for Clemmons fly to left field that scored Bailey.

MHS coach Andy Shelton sent Colby Johnson to the mound in the bottom of the second inning.

Alex Bigale took the mound for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the third inning, fanned two and induced a ground out to short to end the inning.

Marianna plated two runs in the fourth inning.

Jeremy Barber, in a rare plate appearance, doubled to left field to start the inning and moved to third on a single by Alex Bigale.

A walk to Brandon Hendrix loaded the bases for Edwards’ sac fly to center. Dryden drove in another run when he reached for the second time on a bobbled ball at second.

Dustin Miller took the controls for the Dogs in the fourth inning, gave up one run on two hits and two errors.

In Friday night’s action, Jeremy Barber took the mound and went the distance for the Bulldogs.

Barber gave up a first-inning run before shutting out the offense for the next four innings.

Barber allowed three scattered hits, two walks and had three errors commit-ted behind him.

Offensively, the Bulldogs scored eight runs in the first inning with just one hit by Dry-den, an RBI single.

In the third inning, Marianna added three runs off of four hits and one walk.

Wilson led off with a single and moved to second when Gardner drew a walk.

Dryden was out at second when Bailey sacrificed to score Elliott. Sims moved to third on a single by Adam Bigale and Brandon Booth’s singled loaded the bases.

Clemmons singled to score one and Johnson’s fielder’s choice scored Bigale.

Marianna will travel to Jacksonville on Monday to participate in tournament play on Tuesday and Wednesday.
