With its men's basketball state champions getting ready to travel to Hutchinson, Kan., to compete for a national championship March 18-22, Chipola College is asking for donations to fund the long trip and stay at the NJCAA tournament.

The Gulf Coast Lady Commodores basketball team followed through with what many predicted from the beginning of the JUCO basketball season as they captured the Women's State Tournament title Saturday night at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center.

Pendergrass named to hall of fame

MARIANNA: Alice Pendergrass, coordinator for the state basketball tournament, was named to the FCCAA Women's Coaches Hall of Fame during a ceremony on March 7.

Bulldogs pick up baseball win

The Marianna High School Baseball team picked up a pair of solid county wins this weekend, the first coming on the road at the expense of Graceville High School and the second at home against Sneads High School.

Raiders reach state title game after whipping Broward 95-74

The Okaloosa-Walton Raiders advanced to Saturday's FCCAA state title game with a thoroughly-impressive showing Friday in the semifinals against Broward in Marianna. Josh Hunter led five OW starters with 14 or more points with a 23-point effort as the Raiders cruised to a 95-74 win.

Chipola routs Indian River, sets up epic title showdown with Okaloosa-Walton

For the fourth time this season, the Chipola Indians will take on the Okaloosa-Walton Raiders Saturday night at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center. The last time the teams played each other in Marianna, it was to decide the Panhandle Conference champion. On Saturday night, their meeting will determine who wins the state championship and makes a run at a national crown. Chipola advanced to the title game by routing Indian River 85-62 Friday night in the semifinals.

Lady Eagles soar to semifinal round

The Tallahassee Lady Eagles punched their ticket to today's semifinal round with a 69-62 win over Santa Fe Wednesday afternoon at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center.

Chipola aiming for return to title matchup

Indians struggle early, pull away late in 73-62 win over Central Florida

It wasn't a thing of beauty, but the Chipola Indians move on, nonetheless. The Panhandle Conference champions missed 14 free throws and shot just 2-of-15 from the 3-point line but did enough Wednesday to take a 73-62 win over Central Florida in the first round of the FCCAA state tournament. Chipola advances to face Indian River Friday in the semifinals at 6 p.m.

Okaloosa-Walton wins in first round action of FCCAA tourney

Keith Ramsey scored 26 points to lead the Okaloosa-Walton Raiders to a 82-70 victory over the Santa Fe Saints Wednesday in first-round action at the FCCAA state tournament at the Milton H. Johnson Center.

Florida's best junior college teams will invade Marianna for the Men's and Women's FCCAA/Region VIII state Basketball Tournament which begins today at Chipola's Johnson Health Center.

Indians take on Central Florida in rematch of title game

In the first round of the FCCAA state tournament today, the Chipola Indians will be facing a familiar foe. The defending state champion Indians will get the team, Central Florida, that it defeated a year ago in the championship game in an 84-67 rout.

Tigers defeat Vernon 5-2, fall to Chipley 4-1

The Graceville Tigers split games with Chipley and Vernon this weekend, taking a 5-2 win over Vernon in Graceville Friday, one night after falling 4-1 to Chipley on the road.

Nine Chipola basketball players have earned All-Panhandle Conference honors for the 2007-08 regular season. Chipola also boasts the men's coach of the year and men's player of the year.

The Chipola Indians split the first two of their three-game, weekend set with the St. Petersburg Titans at Chipola Field, taking a 10-5 win Friday night before falling 9-5 Saturday afternoon.

Bulldogs to take on Pine Crest at Final Four

The last time the Marianna Bulldogs made the Final Four in Lakeland in 1985, the current Marianna coach, Travis Blanton, was then a Bulldogs player. Blanton's 1985 Bulldogs fell to Jacksonville Bolles in the semifinals. The 2008 version of the Bulldogs will get a chance to give their coach some redemption today when they take on the Pine Crest Panthers at 1:30 p.m. in the 3A state semifinals in Lakeland.

After 38-35 win, Bulldogs one game away from Final Four

One game away. The Marianna Bulldogs are now just one game away from making their first trip to the Final Four since 1985. A 38-35 victory over Pensacola Catholic Tuesday night advance the Bulldogs to Saturday night's 3A Regional Final against Florida High in Marianna. Another win would put Marianna in the Final Four in Lakeland for the first time since its coach, Travis Blanton, went 22 years ago as a player for the Bulldogs.

SNEADS - The Sneads Pirates got 13 second-half points from Dontavious Walker and a surprising performance by freshman reserve Terrance Pittman to take a 62-48 win over Baker Thursday night in the first round of the 2A state playoffs.
