The Chipola Area Gator Club will have its annual gathering May 20 at the Jackson County Agriculture Center.

For the second straight year, the guest speaker will be University of Florida assistant football coach Sean Cronin, who assists in coaching the Gators’ defensive line.

Speaking on behalf of the Gator Club, Charlie Brown said there was much excitement about Cronin’s repeat appearance at the meeting.

“Sean was the speaker last year and did an outstanding job,” he said. “The main thing he’ll be covering is the results of annual Florida spring game, which was witnessed by some 62,000 Gator fans, and he’ll also be talking about some individual Gator players because Florida had a top five recruiting class each of the last three years.

“Last year, he was very entertaining in telling stories about different players and different coaches.”

Cronin is a former assistant coach at Marshall and joined the Florida staff two years ago, his first season being the 2006 national championship season.

The social time for the event will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., which will include refreshments and boiled peanuts.

“Everybody just gets to know each other better,” Brown said of the social time. “It’s a good time to mingle with (Cronin). He’s excellent at it.”

At 7 p.m., there will be a smoked steak supper with baked potato, tossed salad and iced tea with cake for dessert.

The club will also have election of officers for the coming year.

“We look for large crowd of over 100 people,” Brown said.  “Last year, we had over 130.”

Those wanting to attend can call Charlie Brown at 482-8930, or Philip Clikas at 482-7209 before Friday at 5 p.m.
