Kiwanis 13, Zaxby’s 8

In Dixie Youth AAA action, the Kiwanis bounced back from their loss last week to take a 13-8 victory over the expansion Zaxby’s squad.

Zaxby’s took the field with only eight players, opting to play the game without the required nine players in place.

Jack Craven started on the mound for Zaxby’s, went 2 1/3 innings before Maxx Harrell came on to finish the third inning.

Kiwanis countered with Hunter Eddins for 3 1/3 innings before giving way to Aaron Williams to complete the game.

In the top of the first inning, Landon Tharpe led-off with a double and stole third.

Ryan Reed took one for the team and stole second putting runners at second and third. Maxx Harrell sacrificed to first to score Tharpe.

Reed scored on a passed ball.

The next two batters struck out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the frame, Aaron Williams got thing started with a single.

With Brandon Reed at the plate, Williams stole second and scored on the overthrow by the catcher.

Reed sent one to the grass that rolled to the fence allowing him to touch ’em all for an inside the park home run.

With one out, Hunter Eddins doubled and scored on a double by Ethan Strickland.

Hampton Jordan joined the hit parade with an RBI single.

With two outs, Lance Long singled to score Jordan to give Kiwanis a 5-2 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Teyton Howell walked and stole second.

With one out, Tharpe singled to put runners on the corners.

A walk to Reed loaded the bases for Harrell’s three-RBI stand up double.

Following a steal of third, Harrell scored on a single by Jack Craven.

In the bottom of the inning, Brett Crumpler drew a lead-off walk.

Following a strikeout, Landon Pippin walked and the next batter went down swinging.

Williams doubled home two runs.

Reed walked and Zac Malone singled to score two before a fly out to the shortstop ended their inning.

At the end of two it was Kiwanis 9-6 over Zaxby’s.

Strickland was robbed of a base hit in the bottom of the third on a groundout to Tharpe at deep short when he made a major league throw to Harrell at first to get the out.

Jordan and Sims drew walks to set things up for Lance Long to send one to the fence for a three-run home run.

Walks to Callen Bozeman and Crumpler led to Bozeman scoring on an overthrow at second.

A ground out and a strikeout ended the inning with Kiwanis leading 13-6.

Zaxby’s added two runs in the final inning of play.

Reed singled and stole around the bases to score on a passed ball.

Craven followed suit when he was issued a free pass on balls and scored on a passed ball.

Marquez Patterson then took it on the chin and Howell followed with a walk but neither would cross the plate.

Action continues on Thursday in Dixie Youth AAA at Optimist Park.

In other AAA action, People’s First took a 9-6 victory over Optimist.
