The Chipola Lady Indians dropped their final game of the season Saturday night before one of the largest crowds of the season, an 84-65 loss to conference rival Gulf Coast Lady Commodores.
With their chances at another run at a state championship gone, the Lady Indians were fighting for pride in their final contest of the season.
Chipola hung tough through the first half of play, leading by as much as six in the early going.
With four minutes off the clock, Latoya Williams went 1-for-2 from the line to give the Lady Indians what would be their largest lead of the game, an 8-2 advantage. Williams had nailed a three-point shot with less than two minutes off the clock to put the Indians up 5-2 for their first lead of the night.
The Lady Commodores battled back and led 43-37 at the half.
In the second half of play, Lula Hayes hit from downtown to bring the Lady Indians within three and Ashley McCray’s layup made it a one-point game and brought the crowd to their feet.
The Lady Commodores answered with a bucket by Kim Jones but Chipola countered with their own two-point play by McCray.
The Lady Commodores pulled away with 15 minutes left to go in the game and the Lady Indians could not overcome the depth and experience of Gulf Coast.
The Lady Indians were led in scoring by Williams with 16, followed by McCray with 14. Marnesha Hall was in double digits with 11 points.
