Malone, Elks tie; Farm Bureau shocks Lions

In Dixie Majors Ozone Thursday night at Optimist Park, four teams were in action.

In game one it was a 7-7 tie between Elks and Malone.

In the nightcap game, Farm Bureau shocked the Lions with a 9-2 victory.

On the mound for Farm Bureau was Steven Miller who threw all six innings, giving up just two runs on two walks, two hits and two costly errors.

The Lions countered with Eric Perdue, who went three innings before giving way to Trenton Nobles, who closed out the final three innings.

Perdue allowed four runs on four hits, four walks and two errors. Nobles allowed four runs on three hits, two walks, two hit batsmen and one error.

In the top of the first inning, Farm Bureau’s Ryan Hewett singled with one out, stole second and scored on a sacrifice by Levi Cobb.

Trent Childs took advantage of an error at second to reach first, stole second and third before crossing the plate on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

Farm Bureau added two runs in the top of the third inning.

Hewett got things going with a lead-off double and scored on a bunt by Cobb. Childs singled to score Cobb.

The Lions answered in the bottom of the inning with one run to make it a 4-1 game.

Luis Martinez reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on an error at second.

The Lions added a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Nobles beat out a throw to first and moved to second on an errant throw.

A walk to Andrew Shouse put runners on the corners and a double steal plated Nobles before Steven Miller fanned the next three batters to get out of the inning.

Farm Bureau added two runs in the fifth inning.

A lead-off walk scored on a double by Cobb, who scored on a passed ball.

With one out, Reid Long took one for the team, and with two outs, Wyatt Bachelier joined Childs, pinch running for Long.

Nobles sat the next batter down looking.

Farm Bureau added two insurance runs in the sixth inning.

Corey Basford reached on an error at third and moved to third on a single by Wesley Weston.

A two-out walk to Hewett loaded the bases.

Cobb made it a 3-for-3 night with five RBI when he hit a base-clearing triple.

The Lions attempted a two-out rally in the bottom of the frame with a double by Nobles but a ground out to Miller ended the inning and the game.

In game one, Robert Orshall started on the mound for Malone with Daniel Johnson coming on in relief.

For Elks, it was Kyle Tanner getting the start with relief from Jonathan Sikes.

Malone plated five runs in the first inning with the Elks answering with two.

Austin Lockhart led off with a double and scored on a double by Orshall. A single by Johnson scored Orshall.

Walks to Logan Smith and Harrison Floyd loaded the bases with one out.

With two outs, Dylan Ranew reached on an error at first to score two.

In the bottom of the inning, Blake Edwards walked with two outs and Sikes followed with a single.

Lyle Phelps took advantage of an error to plate two runs and reach first safely but was picked off for the final out of the inning.

In the top of the second inning, Malone added two runs.

A single by Lockhart and walks to Orshall and Johnson plated the runs with both scoring on a wild pitch.

The Elks posted five runs in the third to tie the game at seven.

Austin Keiffer walked and stole second. Quenin Pope walked but a fielder’s choice by Tanner got Keiffer at third.

Gilmore plated one run on a misplayed fielder’s choice.

Waters sacrificed home another run, with Sikes picking up another RBI on a single.

Phelps joined the RBI parade with a double and Dillard plated the last run with a single.

The Elks went down in order in the fourth.

Action continues at Optimist Park on Monday with Farm Bureau hosting Sneads.

First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday’s matchups are Elks and Rotary at 5:30 p.m. with Lions and Malone taking the field at 6:45 p.m.
