Rotary and Zaxby’s take wins

In Dixie Majors Ozone action Thursday night, it was Rotary handing Farm Bureau an 11-1 loss. 

Madison Harrell got the nod for Rotary, going two innings before giving way to Tyler Colson for final two innings. 

Tristan Tharpe took the loss for Farm Bureau.

In the bottom of the first inning, Harrell doubled and scored on another double by Tyler Colson for a 1-0 Rotary lead.

Heath Roberts joined the hitting extravaganza with a run-scoring single.

With two outs, Jonathan Mayes had a stand up RBI double and Austin Nelson singled home Mayes to conclude a four-run first for Rotary.

Matthew Purvis led-off the second inning for Rotary with a singled and later scored on a two-run double by Kody Bryan that also scored Xavier Lampley for a 6-0 lead.

Harrell then launched one over the center field fence for two more runs.

Tyler Colson picked up his second stand-up double of the night and scored on a passed ball.

Heath Roberts and Bo Hughes drew walks and Mayes doubled both of them home for an 11-0 Rotary lead.

With two outs in the top of the third, Farm Bureau’s Steven Miller walked, then stole second and third before Levi Cobb was issued a walk putting runners on the corners.

Trent Childs singled to score Miller but a ground out ended the inning.

The game was called on the 10-run mercy rule.

Action is scheduled to continue Tuesday night at Optimist Park with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Dixie Youth AAA

In Dixie Youth AAA, the expansion Zaxby’s rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the final inning to take a 14-13 win over People’s First.

The cheers from the stands were comparable to those heard at any game in the World Series.

Lawrence Glover started on the mound for People’s, going 3 1/3 innings before being relieved by Will Nance, Seth Gilmore and Kiley Bryan for the final 2/3 of the inning.

Maxx Harrell started on the mound for Zaxby’s, going two innings. 

Harrell was removed after he reached six complete innings for the week and Ryan Reed came on to close out the game.

In the top of the first inning, Lawrence Glover singled and Seth Gilmore was issued a walk, with Glover scoring the first run on a passed ball.

Following a walk to Garrison Melzer, Gilmore scored on an errant throw to make it 2-0 People’s First.

With one out, Antone singled to score a run and Will Nance picked up an RBI single to score Antone for the third run.

In the bottom of the first, Landon Tharpe got things started for Zaxby’s with a stand-up double and scored on an RBI groundout by Harrell to make it 3-1.

In the second inning, it was Steven Spence leading off with a single for People’s First and later scoring on a Zaxby’s error. 

Glover singled to score Robert Self and Melzer picked up an RBI on a single that scored Max Martinez to give People’s a 6-1 advantage.

Melzer scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.

In the top of the third inning, Reed came in to pitch for Zaxby’s. 

Antone singled and stole to third on passed balls. 

With one out, Evan Barber sent a blooper down the first base line that was dropped by the first baseman, allowing Antone to score to give People’s First an 8-1 edge. 

In the bottom of the third, it was Harrell who came up with an inside-the-park grand slam to draw Zaxby’s to within three runs at 8-5.

In the top of the fourth inning, Self walk to get things started, later scoring when Glover hit a stand up double to make it 9-5 People’s First.

Melzer was intentionally walked and stole to third before scoring when Kiley Bryan reached on an error at third for a 10-5 lead.

The big comeback started in the bottom of the fourth with consecutive walks to Jack Craven, Marquise Patterson and Kaelen Smith loaded the bases.

Teyton Howell and Logan Baxley picked up easy RBI when they were issued walks each scoring a run.

A sacrifice by Damien Karlan scored another run with Austin Hunter’s walk loading the bases again. 

Tharpe then hit a bases-clearing triple.

Ryan Reed then turned a sure single into a two-run inside-the-park home run on overthrows to tie the game.

Harrell came up to bat representing the winning run and tripled to center field.

With Craven at the plate, Harrell took advantage of a passed ball to score giving Zaxby’s a 14-13 win.

In the earlier AAA game, it was Regions keeping their win streak alive with an 8-3 victory over Optimist.

Austin Torbett took the mound for Optimist with Regions countering with Trent Charles. 

In the top of the first inning, Cade Bonds led-off for Regions with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice by Dustin York. 

An error at third plated Bonds for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Optimist countered with two runs.

A walk to Justin Crosby got things going with Cody Gwinn reaching on an error at first. 

With runners on the corners, Tanner McCoy singled to score Crosby.

With one out, a walk to Torri Hill loaded the bases but Charles sat the next two batters down swinging to end the inning.

Regions plated two runs in the top of the third inning, both coming with two outs.

Dustin York and Daffin singled to set the stage for Charles’ two-RBI single for a 3-2 Regions lead.

Optimist tied the game with a run in the third when Crosby doubled, then moved to third and scored on back-to-back sacrifices by Gwinn and Torbett.

Regions plated two runs in the fourth with a a fielder’s choice by Michael Young that scored Matthew Shouse and a steal of home by VanHuss for a 5-3 Regions lead.

Regions added three insurance runs in the fifth inning. 

A walk to York scored on a triple by Daffin. Daffin scored on a single by Charles. 

A walk to McCallister put runners on the corners and Shouse picked up an RBI when he flew out to center to score Charles for the final run of the game.

In other AAA action, it was Kiwanis taking their game on the road to Grand Ridge.

The Indians handed Kiwanis a 7-5 loss.

Mason Jackson took the mound for Grand Ridge before giving way to Cade Chatwood to close out the game. 

Kiwanis countered with Ethan Strickland as their starter with Hunter Evans coming in to close. 

Kiwanis plated four of their five runs in the top of the first inning.

Aaron Williams walked and scored on a double by Eddins.

Eddins scored on a stand-up double by Zac Malone for the second run and Strickland and Lance Long drew walks to load the bases.

Walks to Brandon Reed and Callen Bozeman plated the final two runs to give Kiwanis a 4-0 lead. 

In the bottom of the first, Cade Hewett doubled to center field and walks to Mason Jackson and Jonathan Lombardo loaded the bases for Chatwood’s three-RBI triple.

Justin Shaw and Seth Harrell then walked to load the bases. 

With one out, two more runs scored on walks to Johnathan Hayes and Johnathan Campbell to give the Indians a 5-4 lead.

Kiwanis added a run in the top of the second when Sims singled and crossed the plate on a passed ball with two outs.

Bill Gentry and Cade Hewett both drew walks in the second inning but no runs crossed the plate. 

Grand Ridge added one run in the bottom of the third inning.

A lead-off single to right field by Chatwood got things moving. Chatwood stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball for a 6-5 Grand Ridge lead.

Walks to Seth Harrell and Jesse Wayne Harris followed with one out but the next two batters were retired to end the inning.

In their final at bat, Brandon Reed singled for Kiwanis with one out but the next two were out to end the game.

Action is scheduled to continue at Optimist Park on Monday with game times at 5:30 p.m., and 7p.m. 

Grand Ridge will be hosting Cottondale with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch.
