Farm Bureau, Lions pick up wins

Four teams competed for wins in Dixie Majors at Optimist Park Thursday night with Farm Bureau and Malone taking the field in the early game, followed by the Lions and Rotary in the nightcap.

Farm Bureau handed Malone a 6-3 loss.

Reid Long picked up the win for Farm Bureau with Daniel Johnson taking the loss.

Farm Bureau picked up a run in the bottom of the first, with Ryan Hewett launching the first pitch over the center field fence.

Tyler Henry singled to start things off for Malone in the top of the second, then stole second and third. With one out, Dylan Ranew drew a walk and a double steal plated Henry before the final two batters were called out on strikes.

Farm Bureau picked up three runs in the bottom of the third.

Walks to Wyatt Bachelier and Wesley Weston set the stage for Hewett’s two-RBI single.

Hewett took second on the throw and scored on two passed balls to make it a 4-0 lead.

Long led off with a double in the fourth.

A fly out to short was followed by a single by B. T. Johnson to put runners on the corners, but both runners were left stranded when the final two batters went down on strikes.

Malone rallied in the top of the fifth for two runs.

With one out, Joshua Carr walked and moved to third on a single by Lockhart. Johnson doubled home both runners.

With two outs, Harrison Floyd singled but a groundout to second ended the inning with Malone trailing 4-3.

Farm Bureau answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Hewett made it a 3-for-3 night with a lead-off single and scored on a single by Steven Miller.

With two out, Miller scored when Long beat out a throw from second to reach first.

Malone was retired in order in the top of the sixth to end the game.

In game two, the Lions sent Trenton Nobles to the mound and he picked up the win, giving up one run on one hit, three hit batters and striking out 11.

Rotary countered with a Heath Roberts and Tyler Colson, who pitched the final three innings in relief.

In the bottom of the first, Jeremiah Emanuel got things started for the Lions with a lead-off walk.

With one out, Trenton Nobles doubled home Emanuel and scored when Andrew Shouse launched a shot over the fence to score two for a 3-0 lead.

Walker Roberts doubled and Eric Perdue put his name in the home run books with a shot over the center field fence to score Roberts for a 5-0 Lions advantage.

The Lions added three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Lead-off walks to Michael Lamb, Jared Standiford and Hewett loaded the bases.

Nic Helms hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Lamb but got Standiford heading for third.

Nobles doubled to score two but was out trying to take home on the throw.

Tyler Prim and Kody Bryan both took one for the team with two outs in the top of the third inning, but a ground out to the mound ended the inning with runners left on the bags.

Bo Hughes took it on the chin with two outs in the top of the fourth inning, but a strikeout left him stranded at second.

The Lions squandered a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the inning.

Lamb reached on an error and Luis Martinez drew a walk. With two outs, Emanuel was by a pitch, but a strikeout ended the inning.

Rotary picked up one run in the top of the fifth inning.

Austin Nelson reached on an error at second to get things going and moved to second on a passed ball.

Evan Wester drew a walk and a double steal plated Nelson before three strikeouts ended the inning. Time was called in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Games are scheduled to continue Tuesday night at Optimist Park with first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m.
