The Grand Ridge AAA All-Stars took the field last night for their first game of district play in Blountstown. With two teams dropping out of competition, the Indians drew Havana for their first game.
The Indians trailed early by as much as nine runs before bouncing back from a 16-9 deficit to make it a 16-14 final for game one.
The Indians team has only one ten-year old senior player, Garrett Moody with four nine year old players. The other seven players elected to play up to the next level, waiving their last year of AA (7-8 year old coach-pitch) league play.
The roster consists of Johnathan Campbell, Kade Chatwood, Bill Gentry, Seth Harrell, Johnathan Hayes, Cade Hewett, Mason Jackson, Jonathan Lombardo, Steven Mantecon, Dustin Shaw and the youngest rostered player, Jesse Wayne Harris.
The team is coached by Larry Joe Harris and Chuck Jackson with Angie Hewett as team manager.
Grand Ridge was scheduled to take on the Malone Tigers AAA squad Saturday night after Malone fell to Blountsown in the final game of the evening.
A loss will eliminate either Grand Ridge or Malone from further play while a win allows that team to continue towards a district championship.
Results of that game were not available at press time.
