Zaxby’s, Rahal-Miller play to a tie

The action continued in Dixie Boys Thursday night at Optimist Park with Zaxby’s and Rahal-Miller ending in a 6-6 draw.
Adam DeWitt started on the mound for Zaxby’s with Rahal-Miller countering with Zac Davis.
DeWitt went five innings, gave up six runs on seven hits, three walks with three errors committed behind him.
Taylor Strauss came on in relief for the final inning to retire the side in order.
Davis gave up four runs on four hits, one error and two walks.
Of those hits came the first outside the park home run for a Marianna Dixie Boys team this year.
J. T. Meadows hit a two-run shot over the left center field fence for only the second home run this season.
The Grand Ridge Indians’ Blake Edenfield was the only other player to accomplish this feat this season.
Jae Elliott came on in relief of Davis for the final three innings, giving up two runs on one hit, two walks, one hit batsman and one error.
Zaxby’s drew first blood with two runs in the top of the first inning.
With the first batter going down looking, DeWitt took advantage of a dropped ball in left field to make it to second.
An RBI triple by Meadows scored the first run and Mackenzie Taylor picked up an RBI on a single that scored Taylor.
DeWitt retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning.
Davis returned the favor in the top of the second inning, fanning two of the three batters he faced with a fly out to right field getting the third out.
Rahal-Miller picked up one run in the bottom of the second inning.
Elliott reached on an error at second, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Seth Singletary.
Zaxby’s answered in the third with two runs, both coming with two outs in the inning.
A single by DeWitt preceded Meadows’ shot over the fence.
Rahal-Miller countered with three runs to tie the game in their half of the frame.
Following a groundout to third, Davis singled and moved to second on an error.
A walk to Bradly Middleton put runners on the corners for Clayte Rooks’ RBI single.
Elliott tripled to score two before a fly out to third made it two outs. A walk to Mason Melvin went for nil as the final batter went down swinging.
A two-out walk to Gavin Shouppe was the only offense in the fourth inning for Zaxby’s.
Tyler Hampton reached on a catcher’s error in the bottom of the fourth to start things off, but DeWitt retired the next three batters to get out of the inning with no runs crossing the plate.
Rahal-Miller took the lead in the fifth.
Rooks led off with a triple and scored on a passed ball with Elliott drawing a walk.
Singletary then doubled to pick up an RBI with Elliott crossing the plate for the final run for Rahal-Miller.
Zaxby’s rallied with two runs to tie the game in the sixth inning.
Taylor singled and moved to second when Chris Johnson took one for the team.
A fielder’s choice by Sean Henry loaded the basses with no outs.
Devin Ranew picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field.
A walk to Shouppe again loaded the bases with Johnson scoring on a passed ball for the final run of the game.
Rahal Miller went down in order in the sixth.
Action continues Tuesday night in Dixie Boys action with Barnes Tire traveling to Grand Ridge. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m.
