Shannon was a native and lifelong resident of Marianna and a 1992 graduate of Marianna High School. He was employed for a number of years with the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys. Shannon loved his family, enjoyed fishing and camping. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, the late Lloyd and Christine Carter; the late Leland and Mary James and his mother, Sue James Brock. He is survived by his father, Ray Carter and wife, Pauline; one daughter, Rayleigh Brooke Carter of Sneads; one brother, Jason Carter and wife, Angie of Greenwood and many extended family members. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. James Vickery officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home 3960 Lafayette Street Marianna, FL 32446 Phone:(850)526-5059 www.marianna chapelfh.com William Ivey Sims, 71 of the Rocky Creek Community, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Florida Baptist Hospital Altamonte Springs in Orlando, Florida with his daughter and son by his side after waging a valiant battle against lung cancer. Billy, as he was known to friends and family, was born July 23, 1943, the youngest of five children to the late Alton and Mae Sims. He worked for many years in the auto body industry in both Marianna and the Orlando area, until retiring and returning home to the Rocky Creek Community. His pride was his family; he was quick to defend them and even quicker to show them his love. Billy was the best son, husband, father, grandfather and friend anyone could ever ask for. Billy always lived life to the fullest and one of his favorite hobbies was to go fishing with friends and family and invite everyone over afterwards for a fish fry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Mae Sims, his mother-in-law Ruby Porter, two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and a nephew. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Regina Sims she was the love of his life and the light in his eyes. Billy is survived by two children whom he loved dearly, Stacey Sims Russell and Daren Sims as well as his four precious grandchildren, Keely Parslow, Cameron Russell, Brianna Russell and Christian Russell. He is also survived by his brother William Burdette Sims and wife Sarah, sisters Dolores Folsom, Helen Mercer and husband Dallas, Thelma White and husband Tommy, his sister-in-law Debbie Cricco and husband Jeff and brothers-in law Millard "Buddy" Porter and Charles Porter. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews to mourn his passing, each holding a special place in his heart. Services for Billy Sims will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral home with Reverend Luther Pumphrey presiding. A time of remembrance will be held at 10:00 am until time of the service in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rocky Creek Baptist Church. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel 4278 Lafayette Street Marianna, Fl 32446 850.482.2332 www.jamesandsikes funeralhomes.com Clarence Dean Gatch, 89, of Marianna died Tuesday morning, April 21, 2015, at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center, after a long, strong and brave battle with Parkinson's disease. Dean Gatch was born in Eastland, Texas. He and his brothers grew up in Eustis, FL. He served as a Marine in WWII, after which he returned to central Florida. He married Juanita Jeter in 1950 when he was attending Stetson University in Deland, Fl. He and his wife had five children, all daughters (Elaine, Salem, Becky, Cyndy, and Rachel). He moved to Graceville in 1973 to pursue his degree at the Baptist Bible Institute. Dean Gatch was ordained as a Southern Baptist Minister in 1951. He served as a preacher of the Gospel of Christ for most of his adult life, preaching in small rural churches in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. He lived in Marianna for the past 35 years, the last five years being lovingly cared for at the nursing home. Since retirement, he has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Marianna. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Juanita Gatch; two brothers and their wives (CB & Mary Gatch and Bill & Sharon Gatch); five daughters, two sons-in-law; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father (Henry Gatch), Mother (Nova Gatch) and brother (Ray Gatch). Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with his brother, CB Gatch officiating and sister-in-law, Sharon Gatch will provide the music. Interment will follow in Cow Pen Pond Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. She was born November 30, 1921 in Altha, FL and was a graduate of Malone High School. Millie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Malone and a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Mille is preceded in death by her husband Q.T. Chambliss, a grandson Christopher Robert Chambliss, four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include five sons, William (Mary), Robert (Mary), Wayne (Dianna), Eugene (Shirley) and Gary (Jennifer); her daughter Mary Ousley (Bob); thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Anderson, age 61, of Marianna passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Jackson Hospital. She was born in Donalsonville, Georgia on November 25, 1953 to the late John and Marie Croft. Elaine has spent her lifetime in Jackson County and attended Eastside Assembly of God Church. She was a member of The Woman's Club and a local Book Club. Elaine loved the outdoors especially the beach. Most of all she loved spending her time with family, grandchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. Elaine is survived by her son, Lee Anderson and wife Amy of Marianna; daughter, Kristy Millican and husband Kevin of Jennings, LA; brother, Nelson Croft; sister, Hazel Heimbach; and four grandchildren. George was born February 21, 1926, and was raised south of Grand Ridge; he was a life long resident of Jackson County. He graduated from Grand Ridge High School and attended Chipola Junior College. He was a proud World War II veteran having joined the U.S. Army and re-enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He worked at Florida State Hospital, Ryan's Furniture Company, Florida Gravel Company, and retired from the Florida Department of Corrections. George was an avid fisherman; he enjoyed fishing and camping with his wife, family and friends. He loved God and His Church, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Grand Ridge. George loved his family and is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Nellie Elemetter Edenfield; sons Aaron Randall and wife Danye Ann of Wildwood, FL; Michael Terry and wife Debra of Grand Ridge, FL; Edwin and wife Brenda of Sumter, SC; and daughter Teresa Durden and husband Larry of Grand Ridge, FL; grandchildren Nevin Durden, Eric Johnson, Jami Durden Folsom, Heather Johnson, Rebekah Johnson Stephens, George D. He was born on September 6, 1938 in Marianna, Florida as the second son of Mattie Lourene Crawford and Jeff Crawford, Sr. He graduated from Marianna High School in 1955 and completed his Associate of Arts degree at Chipola Jr. College in 1957. He started farming with his father at age 16 while attending Chipola. Jeff married his sweetheart, Katherine Shepard, on June 21, 1959. He farmed peanuts, corn, soybeans, and watermelons for more than 50 years in Jackson County and Houston County. It was his true calling from God to make his living from the land as his father and grandfather had both done before him for many years. He was a very successful peanut farmer throughout his career and received numerous awards such as: Valor award for his significant contribution to the Southeastern Peanut Growers and leadership in the peanut industry; the Outstanding Farm Family of 1986 for Jackson County; the University of Florida IFAS Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2004; the Florida Peanut Producers recognition for major contributions to the 1995 Farm Bill; and Outstanding Service and Leadership as President of Jackson County Farm Bureau from 1987-1990. He served as the Executive Director for the Florida Peanut Producers for several years and worked on numerous national farm bills in Washington, D.C. to support the peanut growers and industry. He served on the Chipola College Board of Directors for 14 years. He served as the Sunday School teacher to his sons and other teenage boys for about 8 years at the Malone United Methodist Church. He was a devout member of the Cliff Abbott Sunday School Class at Marianna First United Methodist Church. He loved Gator football and attended games every year for more than 35 years. He became a private pilot in 1982 and enjoyed flying his Cessna Cardinal plane for 15 years. Jeff was an avid fisherman throughout his life and loved to fish in Iamonia Lake, Lake Seminole, and the family ponds. He loved to fry fish for his wife, family, and friends on every occasion possible. He loved his family dearly and he was highly respected and loved by many friends and people that he touched and supported during his life. He and his beloved wife, Katherine, enjoyed spending time together for trips to the mountains and across the US, loving and seeing their grandchildren as they grew from babies to adults, and attending Gator football games in their Orange & Blue attire. He also had plenty of other passions such as making cane syrup with family and friends by using his cane grinding and cooking process on his farm, making fig preserves each summer, riding his golf cart on his farm daily, and seeing close friends each morning with his Hardees' group. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and he was deeply loved and admired by so many in Jackson County and the wider farming community. He was predeceased by his parents, Jeff Crawford, Sr. and Mattie Lourene Crawford, son Randy, older brother Calvin, and younger brother Harold. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Katherine Shepard Crawford, son Wilton (wife Selena), grandchildren Alicia, Katie, and Wil, brother Larry (wife Glenda), brother Tim (wife Jan), and many nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any contributions may be made to the Cliff Abbott Sunday School Class (Marianna First United Methodist Church) for charity purposes. Truette, 62, of Marianna passed away Monday morning, April 13, 2015 at his home after a long fought illness. Born in Defuniak Springs on August 23, 1952, Mr. Truette was raised in Chipley and graduated from Chipley High School in 1970. He began working straight out of high school with the Florida Department of Transportation in Chipley and retired in 2002. He also served as an Officer for Cottondale Police Department for 10 years. After battling and defeating cancer, in 2004, Mr. Truette seeking a new adventure, worked as a Security Contractor off of the Persian Gulf in Doha Qatar. After a year overseas, he then came back home to Marianna to serve 5 years as a uniformed Deputy for the Jackson County Florida Sheriff's Department. Mr. Truette's hobbies included being significantly involved in his church, riding motorcycles, target practicing with firearms and spectating sporting events. He was most recently a member of Cypress Baptist Church and was significantly involved in men's prayer groups and youth events and activities. Mr. Truette was preceded in death by mother, Theda Kirkland Truette; father, Mac Truette and brother-in-law, Eli Carr of Chipley. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, JoAnn C. Truette of Marianna; two sons, Greg Truette and Chris Truette and wife, Hannah of Marianna; one daughter, Kim Strickland and husband, Jonathan of Macclenny; one grandchild, Gabriella Strickland; one sister, JoAnn Truette Ritner and husband, Charles of Chipley; one brother, Randall Truette and wife, Mina of Chipley; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 22, 2015, 10 a.m. at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. She received Jesus Christ as Savior in May of 1943. Graduated Cottondale High School June of 1948. Mrs. Barfield was called into the ministry of her Lord in 1950. She received Exhorter license and from there became Ordained in 1972. Marrying her husband in 1951, after the Korean War, then Vietnam and years of service, the military became her way of life. She loved it and counted every move as orders coming from Heaven and not the Pentagon. As Mrs. Barfield so often referred to her children she is survived by her daughter #1 Susan Barfield, her child Amanda Chance husband Wesley, and their daughter Mandalyn, daughter #2 Marcia Steele and her children David and Susanna Steele, #1 son Johnny Barfield and his daughters Farren and Johnnie Nicole Barfield, daughter#3 Tricia and husband Don Joiner, their daughter Kasey and her son Kyler, and their twin sons D.J. and Buster Joiner. Mrs. Barfield kept her children and grandchildren close and on any given day it seemed a family gathering was taking place. Her loving husband "Buster" died in 1993. Their family motto was "no matter what you ever do Fam-i-ly is Fam-i-ly." Services for Mrs. Barfield will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 12, 2015 in Sneads Assembly of God Church with Pastor Juno Douglas officiating. Interment will follow in First Baptist Church of Cottondale Cemetery. A time of remembrance will be held from 1:30 P.M. until time of service. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is charge of arrangements. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church She was preceded in death by her sisters Carole Michael, Audrey Griffey, Tommy Hamrick, and son-in-law Thomas Welsh and granddaughter Tracy L. Williams-Vasquez. She is survived by her sister Mary Louise Dean and husband Walter of Citra, FL, daughter JoEllen Welsh of Centerville, TN, son Frank Williams and his wife Janice of Kynesville, FL; six grandchildren, Jennifer Welsh-Eutsler of Centerville, TN, Thomas Welsh of Jacksonville, FL, John Welsh of Murfreesboro, TN, Kevin Williams of Raleigh, NC, Erin Jones and husband Derek of Middlesex, NC, Kimberly Justice of Marianna, FL; 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Berry, 87, of Alford, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Jackson Hospital. A native of Wise, Virginia, Effie had resided in Jackson County for the past 44 years where she worked with her husband for many years painting residences and businesses. She also volunteered throughout the years working for Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army and Goodwill Stores in Marianna and Chipley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, David Roland Berry, a daughter Mary Ellen Mock, her parents, Samuel and Bertha Osborne Dodson, maternal grandparents, Samuel and Lizzie Osborne, two sisters, Geraldine Owens and Mary Peacock. Survivors include her daughter, Julie R. Berry of Alford; niece, Patsy Payne Boyett and husband Terry of Lake Talquin; two grandchildren, Sarah Mock Halverson and husband Ben of Crawfordville, David Easterwood, US Navy in San Diego CA; five great grandchildren. Born in Frink, FL in Calhoun County, Mrs. Noles had resided in Jackson County for 51 years. She was the first female Area Supervisor for the Florida Department of Revenue and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Christine was very active in her church, Women's Club, Garden Club, Canasta Club; she was a Pink Lady at Jackson Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, cooking and loved traveling. Most of all she was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Louis Noles; her parents, James Walter and Dovie Richardson Burdeshaw and five brothers and their wives. Ed was born November 26, 1922 in Havana, Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy. Ed was a precision heavy equipment operator in Alaska for the U.S. Government for more than 20 years. His passion was Alaskan Natives and American Service men. Ed served as a missionary to Alaska for over 50 years, where he touched countless lives, loved and provided for many. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Fairbanks, Alaska. He has been attending the Sneads Assembly of God since moving back to Chattahoochee. He was Preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur and Nellie Clemons Revells; infant son, Raymond Olen Revells; and eight siblings. Virginia moved to Marianna in 1953 where she worked as a Social Worker for the State of Florida until she retired in 1981. She is a graduate of Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, the First United Methodist Church in Marianna and various other clubs. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jan S. Theunissen, her parents Shepherd L. Shelton and Bess Davenport Shelton, her brother Shepherd L. Shelton, Jr., sister Helen Shelton Byrd. She is survived by her nephews Robert L. Shelton and Pat M. Shelton and niece Sally Byrd Farrell, along with other nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Marianna. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel will direct. No visitation is planned. Brown, age 89, a native of Frostproof, Florida, residing in Chattahoochee, for more than 44 years, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, after a lengthy illness in Dothan, Alabama. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, Florida, where she also taught Sunday school and was a Teacher for Bible School on a yearly basis. She also was the Nursery Keeper of the Church for many years. Zelda had retired as Housekeeping Supervisor at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee. She will be missed so much by her family who closely cared for her during her illness and also by her many friends. She is survived by her four sons, Neal Brown and wife Lisa, Kenny Brown and wife Janice, Kimball Brown and wife Kaye all of Sneads Florida, Todd Brown and friend Deborah Callaway of Bainbridge Georgia; 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and her wonderful and loving caregiver Selena McDaniel. Zelda was preceded in death by her husband, Willis N. (Dub) Brown. Visitation with the family had taken place Thursday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 pm EDT, March 26, 2015, at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads, Florida. Funeral Services are commencing Friday, March 27, 2015, at 11:00 AM EDT, First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee with the Rev. Barry Cottle and Rev. Bill Mayo officiating, followed by Committal and Interment Services at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Highway 90 East of Chattahoochee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy O'Bryan; her parents, L.B. and Ella Fair McAlpin; three brothers, JR McAlpin, Gene McAlpin and Sherall McAlpin. She was born on February 20, 1947 to the late Dallas Ely and Bernice Inez Mooneyham Herring. She was a native of Jackson County where she was a member of Welcome Assembly of God Church. She was an avid gardener, and loved babies. Phoebie worked as a CNA for several years at the Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was great at telling stories and most of all loved her grandchildren and great grandchild. Spending time with them was the highlight of life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband George Jacob Wilson. Phoebie is survived by her children Dallas Neel, Glenda Jane McLemore and husband Will, George Jacob "Bo" Wilson and wife Tiffany and Almena Ann Wilson, brother Dallas Herring and wife Sherry, sister Pam Hatcher and husband Mike, grandchildren Justin Lee Rhodes, Zachary Hampton Fitzpatrick, William Hunter Wilson, Jordan Ely Wilson, Tanna Nicole Moore, Jacob Logan Wilson. She is also survived by one great granddaughter Kaley June Rhodes. Services for Phoebie will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home at 12:00 P.M. with Rev.
